Key West is small lurid place that represents the most southern spot of the US. Keys is a group of islands interconnected with bridges so you can reach the very spot with the car, plane or a boat. It is an amazing fact that most Americans have no idea that you can come here with a car.

This place is protected by the Ministry of Culture since it has great significance to the American history. Namely, president Truman brought some very important decisions here, “while every cab and shuttle bus driver will stop in front of his house and mention it. Key West is favourite resort of American presidents still today. Even though there is nothing much to see, but for the purpose of preserving the delights of American history there are special laws prescribing construction of houses in the area. It must not differ from other houses, i.e. wooden, white or grey colour houses are allowed. The place itself looks as a in a movie set, everything seems too artificial…

There is nothing much to see here. You can walk the place through in some 30 minutes, and tourist guide will try to show their pride for houses around 100 years old ...hmm. Sloppy Joe, Margaritaville, … are just some of the names of the bars where you can have really good time if you like that kind of entertainment. That is all you can get. This place has a Caribbean climate so there are always tourists around, while cruisers don’t miss the opportunity to sail in. This part of the US is the closes to Cuba, so usually Cuban emigrants try to get to Key West in small wooden boats, to find their freedom, mostly unsuccessfully. I witnessed myself such an event in the middle of the ocean.

Pensioned people, who have decided to spend the rest of their lives in a lovely quite place, far away from the noises of large towns are common here. However, since this place gets ruined due to the hurricanes every year, they become nervous every year since they can lose their homes in a matter of seconds… Why? Because all buildings must be wooden…

Perhaps they will give it up and learn a lesson… If you are going to Caribbean, don’t bother too much if you miss to see this one, it doesn’t have a high rank on my list of recommended destinations…
