I have seen this island for the first time up from the air since I did not get aboard the cruiser in Miami. Through the clouds I could barely notice the contoures of the island so I had no idea how big it is. However you can tell that by the size of the airport. According to the last statistics only 44.270 lives here. This small island, totally flat, not a single hill to notice (highest point gets only 43 metres up, the rock which is part of the coast) was discovered by the Columbus in 1503, during his adventure voyage. Many things have changed since that time... Island became true mecca for the offshore banks and financial institutions. 600 offshore banks is registered here! Exactly, you read it precisely, 600, with the total amount deposited on the accounts of 40 thousand companies is 500 BILLION dollars!!! Stunning sum that makes you dizzy only to think of…

There are only couple of things to experience here. Not much really. Tourists and businessmen come here for only two things. Tax evasion and lazy lying on the beach. Those are main aces of this island. Nothing much to be seen except for the 7 miles long beach, huge turtles which usually serve as food, perhaps 80% of those, and enormous stingrays, with their natural habitat in the middle of the sea at a place 40 minutes away with the ship. Amazing play of the nature. In the middle of the open sea the sand, sea gets only up to your waist and enormous stingrays swim around you. They look frightening since average size is about a meter. You can take them in your hands and take a picture with them. They actually love people around them. Everything seems to be all right until you step on one. They take it as a threat and fight back with their widely known weapon, electric flick from the tail.

Highest concentration of giant turtles which are grown in concrete pools is out in the open. They can reach the size of meter and a half, as well as weigh up to 120 kg. In accordance to that the island specialty is turtle burger. Turtle meat in a burger. Is there a Croatian word for burger anyway? Those who have tried it say that it tastes like chicken :) As I have previously mentioned we are talking about the tax paradise here, not exclusively made for the owners of thick bank accounts. Jewelleries on every corner, rare stones, corals, original brands of watches, clothes, shoes, sunglasses. Exceptional choice for people who want to spend larger amounts of money on extra quality merchandise. Several dozens of hotels that satisfy the needs of even the most demanding and weathy clientele.

It is totally normal to see private planes landing every couple of minutes… There you see, island for relaxation, depositing and spending money. Nothing else… You can reach it by the sea or air. Natural resources are rather delicate on the island as well as in the sea that surrounds it. If your idea of entertainment includes breaking corals remember that it may cost you 'lovely' stay in the local jail and pay enormous fines. Beaches are not the place to go nude, meaning that the island has no nudistic or topless beaches… ? Simply, you are not allowed to do so. It is recommended that you don't put your shirt off either when walking around. If you ever come to this island and wish to have a cup of good coffee, just couple of streets down the main road is Daily grind coffee. It is the place to enjoy your coffee, avoiding the noise of numerous tourists that buzz the streets. For a great meal you have several very good restaurants on the main road, which spreads alongside coast in the center of Georgetown, capital of Grand Cayman.

Currency in Grand Cayman is Cayman dollar. Don't be upset if you have the US dollar it is used as well, while for 1 US dollar you get 80 cents of the Cayman $.
